Things I Love Thursday!

Greetings from sunny Cali-forn-i-a! I’m traveling right now on my mini vacation to the sunshine state. Certainly didn’t get everything done that I wanted to before I left, but I’ve finally been able to relax. The bestest massage ever today didn’t hurt either, hehe. Tomorrow I leave the desert of lovely Palm Springs and my ridiculously cushy hotel to return to LA and spend the rest of my trip with family. It certainly should be interesting. I know after a day or two more I’ll be definitely be happy to be returning home to sleep in my own bed and hug Boo, but in the meantime I’m going to live it up like it’s 1999! Wishing you all a wonderful end to your week!

Scarves ~ I used to think scarves were for old ladies. (Sorry Mom). Then they became “hip” and there became 20 new ways one could wear them. I now love scarves. I got into them last year, maybe a little before, and now I have a lovely collection. And I added one more to it. I was shopping for gifts for my Moomoo awhile ago and came across this gorgeous multi print scarf of cream, navy and burnt yellow. At first I thought of the scarf just for her tastes decided against it and got something else, but I haven’t really been able to get it out of my head. I himmed and hawed about spending the money and didn’t do it for weeks upon weeks, but finally bucked up and went back. And got the LAST ONE! It was fate. And it was also fate that I walked in to scarf heaven while in Palms Springs. So dangerous! I’m coming home with goodies.

Girly Wedding Talk ~ My friend got engaged over the weekend and though I have some reservations I have voiced in the past, ultimately her happiness is what matters and I am excited for her. And of course, a future wedding means girly wedding talk about dresses and honeymoons and the like. I’m avoiding talking about this junk around the man friend because I don’t want him to do the boy thing and think that just because I know this stuff and talk about this stuff that it means I feel my clock ticking. Cause I don’t. One day perhaps. But certainly not anytime soon. But in the meantime, I will be sending the gal pal and appropriate list of potential affordable honeymoon options OTHER THAN Seattle. Seattle is great, but you go there regularly and this is your honeymoon. Be good to yourselves.

Little Loves . . .

Cool weather  Waking up to the sound of rain  The changing leaves ♥ Packing for 100 degree weather while it’s 65 degrees out  The man friend: “Will your phone work in Cali? I’d like to call you.” So cutes!  Fudging up my phone on purpose all because of a button I couldn’t find and my phone reminding me how far I’ve come by downloading a bazillion contacts I don’t speak to anymore. Frustrating and time-consuming, but illuminating.  Cleaning up and finding all of my missing earrings  Ridiculously busy work days to try to jam everything in before I leave  The airport! I have a forever-love for the airport!  My nails right now. I’m praying I don’t jinx myself by saying so, but they are the perfect length and shape right now. And, I just learned how to make your own nail art decals. I am addicted to the possibilities of hearts at home now!!! ♥ iTunes. I’m putting this on the list because I’m trying really hard to still be in love with my iproducts. My pod was messing up so I wiped it two days before I leave. My phone has been a big ole self-made mess due to iconfusion. But I am remaining positive that everything will work itself out. Treat your electronics right and they’ll treat you right! ♥ Watching the first season of TruBlood finally  My coworker sharing his giant bag o’ tomatoes  Postcards & love stamps  Puppydog snuggles. Boo is back to sleeping on the bed and cuddling in the morning. It’s a nice change of pace for now.  Fuzzy socks ♥ Soy chai lattes  Avocado slices  Talking about pot pies and trying to imagine good ones. I have a pot pie stigma block right now.  Dreaming of massages, tram rides and beauty in Cali  Finally getting an appropriate level of sleep to recover from this weekend  The gal commenting on potential eyebrow maintenance and how I currently go about it as though it’s a choice I haven’t purposefully devised. Haha, you’re sweet.  Getting back to an acceptable social interaction at work  Blue ruffle shirts and pearls  “I imagine miracle whip is like goblin cum”  Free nights at art museums  Best massages and deciding that I’m not a facial person  Love sculptures  Driving through the desert at night  Breathtaking paintings ♥ “Wow, when it rains my grass lays down and it almost looks like I mowed”  Not understanding modern art  Free car upgrades  Bruschetta  “It’s a dry heat!”  Driving through acres of windmills and being reminded of Mac & Me  Outdoor markets and vendors at night  Getting a henna tattoo finally! I’ve wanted one again all year so I’m super stoked! ♥ Finally relaxing while on vacation and sleeping in  It’s horrible, but hearing the phrase “killer cantaloupe”. All I think of is a killer cantaloupe running down the street with an angry face trying to eat you. Late night swims under the stars

What you do here,
What you hear here,
When you leave here
let it stay here.”

Fall Fashion Exploits

I’m plus size. In case you didn’t know. Good or bad, this has always made shopping an interesting (to say the least) experience. When I was younger, it was a struggle because the plus size clothing industry hadn’t really been developed. And as they started to develop it, they still had no clue how to tailor to a plus size woman’s body. Many retailers thought, and still do, think we’re just bigger skinny chicks and so they just enlarge the same proportions to size up. MISTAKE. Our body flow is different as are our “trouble areas”. First there were just moumous. Then there were clothes, but they were poorly shaped or for executives. Thank god I was young during this time and you’re suppose to make ill-fated fashion choices then. (Corduroy overalls anyone?)  Thankfully, retailers and designers have gotten hip to the fact that plus size exists and it’s a big industry (no pun intended). And that we have a brain and a discerning eye. Now if only I could get them to realize that some of us have long torsos and legs . . .

Last night I went late night shopping with my 50% off coupons. I went in there essentially knowing what I wanted, but it’s always interesting to see what comes out.

Fashion Conf
ession #1:
I’m afraid of fur

The funny thing is, I think I could probably pull it off. Like the peacock feather headband I was eyeballing (love the peacock!). But alas, not sure I’m brave enough to go down the faux fur route. Part of it may also be the city I live in. If it were back east, hands down, I’d be fine. Here, it’s a little iffy.

Fashion Confession #2: I’m secretly in love with tights this year

I have a love for tights this year. I didn’t buy any this time though. I think I also have a secret fear I need to get over that tights remind me of being little. Ya know, when we were little and had to where tights with every skirt or dress and they weren’t fun prints and they itched and you had to pull em down all the time to use the restroom and and and . . . Maybe the issue back then was simply that they weren’t a choice. I’m thinking of dark grey or black tights in a chevron print with my leather knee-high boots this year. Even if nobody else saw them, I’d know they were there. And that’s fun.

Fashion Confession #3: I bought panties that remind me of animal crackers

I may return them, I may not. I was sort of in a panty conundrum last night. There were several I liked, but not all. And at this stage in the game, to not like what’s on your rump all day is kind of unacceptable. You put it there. I don’t want things in my panty drawer that I don’t like. That was for then, this is now. I might just return the couple I’m not crazy about and keep the others. We’ll see.

Fashion Confession #4: It may seem silly, but I’m in love with these shoes!

I’m still marginal on Lane’s shoe building abilities. They have a lot of great styles, but I think they still need to work on how they form to the foot and comfort, both in the foot pad as well as the top of the shoe that wraps around your foot. I’m sure they’ll work it out eventually. In the meantime, I tried these shoes on last night on a whim. And weirdly enough, loved them. I thought the bows would be silly or froofy, but they were a fun accent of femininity. They heel is thick which is nice and with the slight platform bottom, the heel height ends up being fairly manageable. Unfortunately, they saved me from myself by not having my size. But don’t be surprised if they end up in my collection this year . . .

In the end, I came home with a black skirt that matches by grey one (I wanted another color), a second pair of my comfy pants from last year because it was such an ordeal to try to find another pair after I bought the first and some new panties. Not a bad start to the new season.

Wishing you all open minds and fashion dreams!

Dingo Stole My Beaver!

I feel it’s important for one to feel sexy. Neigh, a necessity. This can come in many forms from working out to a shiny new pair of heels to dressing up super special to putting an extra bit of pizzazz in your step. Whatever does it for you, it’s important that you do it.

Lately I’ve been feeling a bit unsexy . . . the broken foot, the emotional roller coaster, the penguin walk. None of it’s incredibly attractive to me. I long to wear sexy shoes during the summer again! Despite all of this, I know the only way I’ll feel sexy again is if I commit to it. Which is why I’m so happy it’s my birthday month! If there’s any time to feel shexshy, it’s your birthday month. Each year I treat myself to a naughty gift . . . a trip to “Brazil” for my lower half if you will. Something a little extra to give myself a little lift. I did so this weekend.

I won’t lie, it’s not cheap and it hurts. But then again, that’s why they made motrin (or drinks) and you’d need to pay me a lot to look at ladies’ hoohas all day . . . and that’s why the Lord made groupon! I officially love groupon with a big ole heart. I went to a new place in Tigard that I’ve been dying to dry. It’s tucked back in off the main drag and you have to wonder through the residential area to get to it, but boy howdy, it was worth it. It’s a little disconcertingly plain on the outside, but inside, Lavish is a gorgeous studio with tasteful decor and a simple ambiance. Nothing overdone and snooty and you feel instantly comfortable.

Andrea at Lavish is a phenomenal waxer! I’ve had Brazilians at other spas around town and they certainly always do a good job and minimize the pain, but I will say there’s something that’s always been missing previously. One of the big selling points is that the Brazilian will steal everything you got if you get it. However, I’ve found that depending on which salon you go to will depend on how much they take. Some promote the brazilian in their menu, but don’t always deliver. Oh don’t get me wrong, what they do do is good, but not everything. Not so the case this time. And while it was a new experience, I was pleasantly surprised at the pleasant demeanor and thoroughness of my wonderful waxer. I guess if you’re going to do a job, you should do it right.

“I got mugged! She took everything I got!”‘ ~ Carrie Bradshaw

Things to know before you go:

♦ Make sure you’ve let everything to grow out 2-3 weeks prior to your appointment

♦ Refer to the above chart for what you’re looking for in terms of lawn maintenance. If you aren’t looking to have all of the goods taken, make sure you let the know ahead of time. Otherwise, you’ll suddenly be bare down there before you know it!

♦ Be prepared for awkward positions and helping out your waxer. Sometimes they need more than just their two hands to get the job done.
*Bonus points for flexibility. The number one comment I always get is that they are surprised at how flexible I am.

♦ If in the end you aren’t happy with the job they did, let them know. You’re spending a good amount of money, you should be happy with it. And always keep in mind that every waxer and every establishment is different. Just like hairdressers and nail salons. If you don’t like one, don’t give up! Try another next time!

♦ You may want to refrain from debuting the new playground for at least 24 hours. It will allow for post-wax discomfort to pass and for you to get comfortable. Then you’ll be right as rain!

♦ And my one, final piece of advice: Enjoy the new sexiness! Just be careful, it makes you do funny things . . .

“That’s the thing about the Brazilian, it makes you do crazy things. You have to be very careful who you invite to Brazil.” ~ Samantha Jones

Happy Waxing!

Ta Da For: Exhibits To Love

I’ve been meaning to do a post on this for a while and now is as good of a time as any. I am currently in love with two exhibits going on right now, one local, one across the country. And if you’re in either area, I highly recommend you don’t miss!

  • Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty Exhibit ~ The Met

I have a thing for Alexander McQueen designs. And felt they were sumptuous long before his death. He was a cross between excentric space age and flowing romanticism. Often his designs were ahead of their time or more walking art than wearable, but they were all beautiful. Recently his design house has become best known for being the one to design the wedding dress and wedding dinner formal wear for Katherine, Prince William’s new bride. Long before that, there were these . . .

How stunning are those? And that’s just a snidbit! If you want to find out more, click here to learn more about the exhibit.

  • The Allure Of Automobiles Exhibit ~ The Portland Art Museum

There are very few things as sexy as old cars. They are sleek, smooth and beautiful. And a part of our history and have not been matched. I love old car shows and I’m in love with the fact that many car companies are going back to their roots with revamps such as the charger, the challenger and the camaro. One thing I will definitely be sure not to miss is this amazing exhibit going on at the art museum this season. Just a few highlights:

1933 Pierce-Arrow Silver Arrow

1938 Alfa Romeo

1957 Jaguar Roadster

To learn more about this exhibit, or better yet, to visit Click Here!

If you aren’t local to either of these, now is the perfect time to go see the things in your area. Don’t put it off or you may never see them again.

Be there or be square!

One Day I Will Have A Man That Smells Like My Left Arm . . .

One Day I Will Have A Man That Smells Like My Left Arm.
And Other Such Goodness . . .

Oh thank heavens this week is overwith. I could not take one more day of the work week. And despite all of the busyness going on at work, I don’t even mind that. But it’s tense right now for sensical nonsense reasons and thus I counted down the hours while longing to escape . . .

And come 4:30, I was escaping like my pants were on fire! First I took myself out to a movie. Every once in a while, you need a movie date night. Saw Fast Five. Other than a stupid part that was crappy acted, the rest of the movie was great. Exactly what I’ve come to expect. And here’s a hint: If you go see, stay through the credits, there’s a little something extra.

Afterwards I had too much good vibe going on to head home, so I opted to go spend my groupon to The Body Shop instead. I was quickly reminded why I haven’t stepped foot in malls in years . . . I hate them. Pretty much everything about the mall I can’t stand. The crowds, the hard floors, the overabundance of noise. Yeah, no thanks. The only thing making me subjecting myself to this is groupon goodness. $45 for $20 in fact. To be honest, I can’t stand girls smells. I don’t like complex, fruity, frilly smells. The hubub hurts my nose. So places like parfumeries and bath & body shops are not a place I frequent. Just the same it’s nice to treat yourself to some goodness every once in a while that makes you feel perdy. After circling the store like a crazy lady 3 times, I kept finding myself being drawn to the men’s scents. This after happens to me. They are simple and if nothing else, remind of a man. My right arm came out smelling lovely, something I could wear myself. One day, my man will smell like my left arm. In the end I came out with a tub o’ Shea body butter, a lip moisturizer, a green tote bag and ruby red lips for this weekend. I felt a little daring . . .

I’m getting the urge to shake things up in my life and it won’t go away. I’m not all together unhappy or anything, but I get the very distinct pull to be something other than what I currently am. I have a feeling this year’s going to be a wild ride!

How are you feeling? Do you need to change it up?

Things I Love Thursday

 My Little Loves . . .

Live Free or Die Hard  Colorful panties  Comfy linen pants. I’ve always been against cream/white on the bottom half, but I LOVE these pants!  Being able to see my dresser top again  Hanging out in my living room again after the carpet cleaning  The bed hog named Boo ♥ A new purse with pink polka-dot lining and finding one I had forgotten about in ooo-la-la red  Vibram five-fingered shoes. So odd-looking and definitely something to get used to with the toe separation, but I love them! They are perfect for minimalist shoe-wearers like me. Bonus points if you’re already used to little-to-no shoe a la flips flops.  Finding a wristlet at REI that will hold the essentials on your wrist while out and about. I love this idea because often you either have no pockets, don’t want to put money and the like in your pockets or just don’t want to lug around a purse. Or all of the above? ♥ Flower pins being in fashion again  Bandanas  Groupon goodness  Finding the hoop earing I was missing beneath a sofa cushion finally  Hockey nights  Planning a Seattle car trip with the fam to the fam soon  Adele  Double pay days!  Random business coming out of my ears! Thank you Lord for the encouragement  Completing my Lent food challenge  “I hate spring water. I found a dead bird in it once. Nature died in my spring.”  Having my car finally into the shop and getting it taken care of. I’m so excited to have that done, to have a new brake light bulb and to finally have my trunk pop working again! Wahoo! Beware my trunk monkey  Getting into the ceramics studio this weekend  Plain cheerios with bananas and blueberries  The hurdy gurdy!!! Do you know what it is? You really should. ♥ Drew Carey’s Improv-a-ganza. I’m addicted to this show. Oh how I’ve missed you guys. Heart! All of the amazing people at the A.R.C. for your tremendous help in fixing the glitch and helping me to be able to save lives again. And for thanking me for doing it. Contemplating taking a class on HIV and blood pathogens because I find it fascinating. Ugh, the nurse in me.  Deciding that I need to do a clean out session again this weekend. Waaaaay too much stuff right now. Need to simplify!  Yellow. I can’t wear it actively, but little doses are loverly Candy-colored flamingos & boy-thick waist bands Wishful thinking outfits Learning to ignore. I do not have this talent naturally. Seeing that Kristen Cavallari is engaged to Jay Cutler. Wow. Just wow. (And SEO, oh yeah). Getting my uncle to come up to NYC later this year when I take the train up. I think that’ll be a trip to remember. And so help me glitter, I better get to the top of the empire state building this time or I will rain monkeys down upon the earth!!!  Sorting M&Ms by colors and evens  Seeing the ridiculous amount of white shirts I own only to realize that they will not all stay white for long, hehe  Barre3. I want to try this so badly! Bouquets of parrot tulips. Hello spring!

Hearing someone’s story of how a transfusion saved their life and being able to say that THAT is the reason I fought so hard to give blood. Approx only 37% of Americans can donate blood. Of that 37%, only 8% actually do. Most are teenagers at high school blood drives. One pint of blood can help up to 3 people. Can you save a life? Do. Find your local blood drive or donation center by visiting The American Red Cross.

 The Dracula Song. Ahahaha!

Happy thursday loves. And remember . . . it’s almost friday. Have some ice cream.

Weekend Goodness

I hope everyone is having a lovely end to their weekend! Seeing as it’s a late hour, late for me anyways, I might have to save my H post for tomorrow. But in the meantime, I thought I’d share some of this week’s goodness. I didn’t take a ton of pictures this weekend, and most of what I did take is saved for the H post, but there’s always stuff to share. This past week or two was sort of rough for me, a lot on my mind, but I like to share the goodness that was there. Some of my favorite highlights:

* Canary yellow heels and big chunky rings:

I lo-lo-love these heels, but lord knows they aren’t the most comfortable things. I confess, three inches of heels is a bit too much for me, but for a little dash of fun they are lovely. I’m 5’10 already so what’s a couple more inches? Hehe. And I’m currently obsessed a bit with fun purses and chunky rings. I don’t have itty bitty fingers so they are something I can pull off. It’s something I’m thankful for.

* A dinner date with the divine Miss M and her lovely daughter. What a glitter pair!

* Sunrises and morning warmth:

I truly cannot wait for spring. We’ve had little dashes and tastes of it thus far, but I crave more sunshine. To wear floaty skirts and wispy shirts! I can’t wait to be able to walk Boo in the morning sun again without wearing a jacket. It’ll be here soon enough I suppose, but it’s nice to hope for.

*Accidental bouffant hairstyles. Rock what yo mamma gave you!

PS – it was early morning. Forgive the not quite there smile, hehe. Hugs & Love!
