Ten On Tuesday

WOULD YOU RATHER:

1. eat chocolate covered grasshoppers or this freaky squid thing?
Eat chocolate covered grasshoppers. I’d probably be open to them anyway just for the sheer fact of being open, but the only freaky squid thing that belongs on my plate is calamari. And not resembling its original form.

2. never see another movie or never watch TV again?
Never watch tv again. No tv isn’t the end of the world. But I like movie lines too much. And going to the movies and being immersed.

3. be a superhero with a lame power or a supervillain with an awesome power?
Lame power for 1000 Alex. Supervillains are all sexy in their mysterious, take over the world kind of way, but I don’t want to be bad. And hunted. And maybe killed for my sexiness. Lame-o it is.

4. eat only salty snacks for the rest of you life, or only sweet snacks?
I guess sweet. I do like sweet even though it’s trying to kill me in crappy ways. But too much salt would be ugh.

5. never read another book or never hear another song?
What a ridiculously hard question! I really, really, whole heartedly love books. But I have to go with never read another book. Music is such an integral part of my life day in and day out. Besides, there’s always books on tape if worst came to worst.

6. be a whale carcass remover or a sewer inspector?
How very Mike Rowe. As eternally gross as it is, I’m opting for carcass remover. I don’t like small spaces with gross smells.

7. have no electricity or no running water?
I’d rather have no electricy. I can work by candlelight, add more blankets, I don’t live in the desert and I can dig a whole and I can grill by gas. Running water, cold or not, so incredibly important! The first thing they bring to 3rd world villages is not electricity, it’s clean running water.

8. be a dog or a cat?
Entirely depends on my owner, but probably a dog. But a big one. Not a tiny yippy one.

9. always be hot or always be cold?
Always be cold. I already am. I can always add more layers or take a nap. Always hot, there’s nowhere to go there. You can only take off so much and then you’re stilly sweaty and hot and uncomfortable.

10. be forced to watch all 3 High School Musicals on an endless loop, or the Twilight movies?
Hands down twilight movies. I can get on board with those. High school musical if for those looking to die a quick death.

Star Trek + Kanye West = Cellos?

Last Thursday evening I indulged in more culture downtown at The Old Church. And I dragged the pops too. For those who don’t know, The Old Church is Portland’s oldest church. We could tell by the lack of air conditioning too. It’s not the most ornate church of Ptown certainly, but it’s been well maintained and as wonderful acoustics. Which made it perfect for the Portland Cello Project!

The Portland Cello Project is a group of local musicians who play both traditional and contempory-adapted music for the local masses. Sometimes they play acoustic, sometimes with other instruments, always wonderful. For me it’s like a local Vitamin String Quartet. And I love that I can find things like this in Portland and it is affordable! It’s one of those things that make Portland unique and eclectic. Not to mention that I am never undressed it seems at these functions . . .

We had great seats on the side that afforded probably 80% of a good view and there was nobody else in our pew. I know that sounds greedy, but when all you do is fidget and it’s hella hot in there, you are thankful.

They played a great show, traditional music and all the way up to “contemporary composers” like Britney Spears and Kanye West. Not to mention some Pantera and a great rendition of the music from Star Trek. Me likes. And I love looking over and seeing my Dad get into the music, he gets excited. Though secretly in my head I giggle when it’s to a cello version of the song Lollipop, hehe. Shhhh, don’t tell.

Here are a couple videos from the show:

Lil’ Wayne – Lollipop

Elliott Smith!!!

Kanye West – All of the Lights

I highly recommend checking out the Portland Cello Project if you are in town or if the come to yours. To check out more, visit here.

Hugs, love and cellos!

Ten On Tuesday . . . on wednesday

1. Do you listen to the radio in your car?  If so, what type of station do you like?
I listen to every station, it just really depends on my mood.

2. What is the best concert you have ever attended?
This is one of the hardest choices ever. Paul Simon was an amazing performer. Shinedown put on a great concert. And the concert this year with The Decemberists and Rodrigo y Gabriela was amazing!!! I’ll pick the concert in the gorge though

3. What is the most embarrassing concert you have ever attended?
N’Sync *hangs head in teenage shame*

4. If you could have the singing voice of anyone in the world, who would it be?
Me. I love my voice. Just not on answering machines and voicemail.

5. You’re auditioning for American Idol.  What song do you sing?
I don’t. Never.

6. If your previous weekend had its own soundtrack, what would be a few of the songs?
The Wizard of Oz Soundtrack? I suck at this game.

7. Most annoying television show theme song ever:
The love boat? Fantasy island?

8. Are you and your significant other music-compatible?
My dog tolerates me. She’s not in love with rap or hard-core rocker music.

9. A song that brings me back to middle school:
Anything by Blackstreet.

10. A song that brings me back to high school:
Wannabe by the Spice Girls

11. A guilty pleasure song (or three):
Any pop music song these days

New Music Monday!

Happy NMM! I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend filles with sunshine and sparkle. I know I did! And maybe a little sleep too, hehe.

Lately I’ve been rediscovering music I used to love but had forgotten about. Case in point: Outkast. I loved Outkast. They were fun, creative and you could always groove to their beat. They weren’t exactly mainstream, but their pizzazz garnered them some hard-hitting recognition, including Grammy’s. And they did a whole musical that included some great blues infused music.

Here are some of my favs:

Maybe you even found some new tunes for you to groove on. Hope so! Happy monday ladies & jellyspoons.

Things I Love Thursday

I’ve always loved the mercedes ad above. I feel like my brain looks like that. Splat. When I try to control it, it looks like the left side. When I let it loose, the right. I like the right side better.

I hope you are all having a lovely and stupendous week thus far. Friday’s almost here! I hope you’re no sweltering and able to get out and enjoy summer, especially the Ptowners. There’s no excuse kiddies. Soon enough, it will be gone and you’ll wonder where it all went. I hardly know where june and july went. That being said, I came to the most delightful realization yesterday . . . I think I’ve finally come to the point where I’m not afraid to be generally vulnerable with someone else again. The thought of dating doesn’t make me want to throw up. Kinda scary. Change can be so constant that you don’t know it is happening until it already has. I love it! My other loves this week . . .

Kayaking Last Weekend ~ Each time I go is a different experience and this is the first time going on my own. And it was glorious! I didn’t have to worry about anyone else and could go at my own pace. When I wanted to stop I did, when I wanted to oooo and awww at the wildlife I did and when I wanted to sunbathe and float my way back to the boat house . . . I did. More please!

Goodwill ~ I finally committed to the clean out. X amount of bags to Goodwill and TY later and I feel like a much happier woman!

Lunch On The Water w/ The Rents ~ Who doesn’t love lunches outside?! On the water . . . with rents. Not to mention cheese enchiladas and giant margaritas that will float away a sailor. The best part? For once I wasn’t the one drooling on myself and we had the most awesome squeaky umbrella. Be jealous.

Les Miserables ~ Last night I went to the touring show of Les Miserables and oh my geez, it was spectacular!!! I bought the ticket on a whim thinking it’d be something to see since I had sung the music many a year ago. I was excited, I thought it would be fun. I was not prepared for it to be breathtaking. The story alone is a bit gut-wrenching, but the caliber of these performers was absolutely beautiful. Truly beautiful. And every show is set to be a full house. I haven’t seen that in ages. I would go again in a heartbeat!

Things I Love Thursday!

Happy thursday! What a weird week it’s been. Yesterday, though ending well, I file under the not so awesome day files. Couldn’t get comfortable, running late, someone at lunch spilled their cranky pants on me and so on and so forth. But then again, it ended well so I guess that’s why they call it hump day. But today is a new day and a new opportunity for tons of goodness! I hope that goodness spills all over you . . .  My loves this week are . . .

Trashing Out ~ Though I meant to get tons more done (but didn’t) and I need to do further things this weekend with it, I’m so excited to have trashed outt my room. There were reminants from the tiredness that was my sickness a couple of weeks ago and then my inability to do much of anything lately thanks to my feet, so finally gettin’ it done was a huge relief! I hate when things pile up and begin to overwhelm you. I say nay!

Revisitng My Meal Strategy ~ So lately I’ve been spending waaaaay too much money. That’s bad. So in an effort to curb this bad habbit, I revisited my budget again and started thinking about my grocery shopping habbits. Because I’ve been lazy and not thinking about meals until the moment I’m hungry, it’s made for some great tasting food made by other people. Yum but ouch. So this week I thoughtt about what sounded good to have and planned accordingly while shopping at the grocery store. Definitely good to have a plan!

Culturephile ~ I beyond excited that the time has finally come for two great shows. Tonight is Matisyahu at the Zoo. I thought about possibly not going, but then I heard a song and was instantly jonesin’ again. I have to decide if it’s just me or not though. Next week is Les Mis downtown. It was one of those shows that I wasn’t dying to see, but instead bought the tickets because I wondered if I didn’t if I would regret it later on in life. Kind of like seeing Mary Poppins. I don’t want to look back and say “I had that chance and it hasn’t come around again”.

Little Loves . . .

So cutes! ♥ Morning thunderstorms  Farmer’s markets  Sunflowers & dahlias  Rub-a-dub scrubbed tub  Boo at the dog park  Finding my hard drive again FINALLY!  Matisyahu at the zoo. Sometimes it’s a gift, sometimes it’s a curse.  Dreaming of homemade guacamole again  Cooking together with your significant other  Lunner  Thank you cards  PF Changs. Oh my geez yum!  Showing my leg finally after the fall. For the sake of not becoming a “fried bunny”, sometimes you just have to bite the bullet and be willing to look like someone beat you up.  Hollyhocks blooming  Getting a good bill of health from my fracture appt  Deciding on sailboating for my bday  Nap time  Bob the builder stickers  Green casts  New sunscreen  Body butter. I love body butter! Mine’s coconut 🙂  Double points tuesday  Brene Brown. I am in love with this woman and her genious. And now I’ve discovered her blog and it’s stupendous!  Finding a deoderant that’s lovely and lasts. This was a ridiculous endeavor to go through so I’m very happy to have found somethin that works and lasts without costing an arm and a leg or smelling grossly floral  New music heaven Hugs and snuggles and smooches Horrible Bosses! I LOVED this movie. I cracked up so much. I highly recommend for anything who likes the Hangover/Zombieland type of comedy. Well worth my free ticket usage!!
